Probel (snell) sirius 128x128 aes audio router matrix

Router specs

  • 7U frame
  • 2x power supplies installed (1 for redundancy)
  • 2x 2434 controller cards (1 for redundancy)
  • 1x 1932 can  card
  • 4x 4907 crosspoint cards
  • 16x 4991 aes 8 channel  input  card with synchronous option on each channel
  • 16x 4995 aes 8channel output boards cards

The 4991 card gives synchronous options. on the 4991 card, each of the eight input channels on this card may be switched into either synchronous or
asynchronous mode using SW1:

Synchronous operation allows digital audio signals that are locked to the AES reference
supplied to the Sirius frame, to be ‘re-framed’ so that ‘click-free’ switching may be achieved.

This is the most common mode of operation in a broadcast environment, where all signals are derived from the same clock, but are not necessarily time-aligned when they reach the router inputs.

Re-framing will apply an appropriate delay to signals before they arrive at the crosspoint such that switching occurs during a non-critical point in the bit-stream, usually the AES pre-amble. Re-framed signals are automatically re-clocked in order to eliminate signal jitter.

Re-framing and re-clocking will operate on any signals in the sample frequency range 32 to 48kHz, providing a reference signal of the same frequency is supplied to the Sirius
frame.

When operating in synchronous mode, a Sirius AES router has the full range of audio-modify features available. This will allow dual channel inputs and outputs to operate in mono or swap modes, which may be fixed in the Sirius database or dynamically switched from a control panel. Details on configuring and controlling this feature are contained the main Sirius handbook
